Parts of Motherboard


Motherboard of a computer setup consists of various parts. Here small description of all the components of motherboard is given below.

1-    Peripheral Component Interconnect (PCI) Slot
On motherboard there is PCI slots lies between 1 to 6, and slots are of 32 bits. All the input/output devices are attached here like graphic card, sound card, modems etc. Its most common and fast version is known as PCI-E.

2-    Central Processing Unit (CPU) Socket
CPU is called the brain of the computer. If CPU is fine computer running fast. There are mainly two types of sockets are used by the processor first is PGA that is Pin Grid Array and second is LGA that is Land Grid Array.

3-    Motherboard Battery Compartment
Motherboard battery is placed inside the battery compartment at the surface of the board and is used to store the data when you shut down your system.

4-    RAM slots
To hold the RAM chips slots are there. It is of 2 types first is DIMM that is Double Inline Memory Module and second is SIMM that is Single Inline Memory Module. To increase the performance of your computer system different size of memory chips are attached here.
